Gail Seymour

Starting out my working life in a plant hire centre, then moving on to a career in a prison library, I used to joke that I was the only librarian in the country (UK, that is) with a certificate to change abrasive wheels.
Years later, when I trained as a florist, the joke became that I was the only florist in the country trained as a hostage negotiator.
Some of the other entries on my CV include a small amount of published poetry and awards won for web site designs. Oh, and regular public speaking as a Kleeneze distributor. The biggest audience I ever addressed was around 2000. That's if you don't count speaking on the local radio chat show.
I've been writing web site content for clients ranging from a carpet retailer to a power tool wholesaler to network marketers for almost a decade now, and am finally earning a living as a freelance writer for an American University and one of the big knowledge based sites.
I also run WritePublishPromote.com.
So now I'm an ex-librarian, ex-website designer, ex-network marketer, ex-florist cum freelance writer. Branching out into fiction writing...

Great read for writers!

By Autumn St John (UK)

Review of The Indie Author Guide:
Great guide with lots of takeaway tips that can actually be put into practice. Is real with writers about what to expect. I'm going to be referring back to this a lot!

A useful resource

By Khyiah Angel (Australia)

Review of The Indie Author Guide:
The Indie Author Guide by Gail Seymour is a useful starting point for people considering writing a book. It is a reasonably well written in a conversational tone that is easy to read and understand. The book talks about the various options available to writers when writing and promoting their first (or perhaps subsequent) manuscript and contains links to some very helpful sites along the way. The Indie Author Guide is an excellent example of how beneficial it can be to produce a book to promote an aspect of business, as it does just this with the website it is written to support. The only (constructive) criticism I have is to do with the formatting. The justified formatting means the lines and spacing are inconsistent, making it a little aesthetically awkward. Apart from this, and the occasional typo (“...where they story developed…”), the book would be a useful resource for anyone starting out as a writer.

Some helpful tips

By Hunter Emkay (Australia)

Review of The Indie Author Guide:
Some helpful tips for anyone looking to set out to self-publish a book , but if looking for more on how to write the book, perhaps look elsewhere at many of the excellent writing craft books out there. Although a good starter for authors thinking of going down the indie-route, it is ironic that the formatting of the ebook (right justification means even the header image slips off the page) lets this showcase example down.
